Hansbrough Comes To Add Teeth To Raptors’ Defence

Tyler Hansbrough

What is a vice in an opponent is a virtue in a teammate.

Take power forward Tyler Hansbrough, a free agent signee unveiled by the Raptors on Monday.

The six-foot-nine, 27-year-old Hansbrough is already famous in Toronto, albeit for the wrong reason. His over-the-top throwdown of rookie Jonas Valanciunas last season was a YouTube staple.

Over four years in Indiana, Hansbrough distinguished himself largely on the number of bodies he could bring to the ground and the number of the times someone else did likewise. Last season he averaged about 17 minutes for […]

Raptors Will Get Tougher, Ujiri Vows

Thirty-year-old Steve Novak is the newest Raptor.

On a day where one move was announced and another two pending exchanges recognized, Raptors GM Masai Ujiri was up front about his guiding philosophy.

“I’m tired of people who come here and call the team soft or pushovers and all those stupid names,” he said. “Come to Canada and you come to play,” Ujiri said. “That’s the identity we are trying to build. This is our team and we’re going to be tough out there.”

Wednesday the Raptors unveiled Steve Novak, one of three players who came to the Raptors from […]

Dwane Casey wants a new/old look for the 2013-2014 edition of the Toronto Raptors.

Casey’s availability at Air Canada Centre, Thursday, was prompted by media questions surrounding his future after the hiring of new Raptors GM Masai Ujiri.

Casey said he and Ujiri have been working in tandem since the new GM took over May 30 but added no coach is safe, especially in an off-season that featured the firing of celebrated coaches George Karl in Denver and Lionel Hollins in Memphis.

Dwane Casey Back As Raptors Coach

Dwane Casey will be back for the third and final year of his contract.

Dwane Casey is getting a do-over.

The Raptors announced Wednesday that Casey will be returning for the third and final year of his contract.

Casey’s story is the tale of two seasons.

He inherited a bare bones team in 2011-12 and delivered a creditable 23-43 season built on team defence. The Raptors went from the bottom of the league to ninth overall in points allowed in Casey’s first season with the club.

Dwane Casey will be back for the third and final year of his contract.
