Full House At Practice As Season Opener Looms

It was all hands on deck for the Raptors at practice on Monday in a workout session head coach Dwane Casey described as the team’s last hard practice for a while.

A full complement of players might come as somewhat of a surprise given a pair of gruesome collisions that sent guards Jose Calderon and John Lucas III to the deck with leg injuries at Sunday’s intrasquad game, not to mention a poke to eye of DeMar DeRozan that sent him to the bench.

Yet all three were full participants on Monday […]

Team Up Foundation Wins Big At Casino Rama

Sunday proved to be a great day for the Raptors to brave the elements and make their way north to Casino Rama, where an intrasquad scrimmage was held as a final tune-up before the team’s season opener against the Indiana Pacers on October 31st at ACC.

Team White, comprised mainly of Raptors reserves, eked out a 78-75 victory over Team Black in a chippy, intense affair that saw a few players hit the deck and leave with injury. Expect updates on DeMar DeRozan, Jose Calderon and John Lucas III to come […]

2012-2013: The Raptors Primer

With DeMar DeRozan entering his fourth season and Jonas Valanciunas ready for his rookie campaign, the Raptors fortunes are looking up. (Ron Turenne/NBAE)

The challenge for the Toronto Raptors is time.

With key additions Kyle Lowry, Landry Fields and Jonas Valanciunas easing into important roles and a dramatically upgraded bench, the Raptors are built to get better as the season progresses.

Where they are come April will be largely determined on how they handle the early days of the schedule.

The Raptors play 16 games in 27 November days.  Ten of […]

What To Make Of The Raptors’ Preseason Record?

After a practice Dwane Casey described as just “so-so” on Wednesday, the Raptors head coach wondered aloud if his team’s 5-1 record in exhibition play was a root cause.

“We still have a lot of work to do. We practised today like ‘OK, we’ve arrived and you can already pencil in [playoffs].’ No. We’re nowhere near that.”

At the risk of going all Herm Edwards, you play to win the game and for a team that hasn’t amassed a ton of W’s the last two seasons, positive preseason momentum has more value […]

Fields & The Couch That Keeps On Giving

It was a moving scene at the Raptors’ practice on Tuesday, where Landry Fields finally received a coveted NBA Social Media Award.

Fields was named the winner of the The Snap Shot Award back in late-July for his now legendary twitpic of the couch that then teammate Jeremy Lin temporarily slept on during their time with Knicks.

With NBA TV in Toronto to shoot an episode of Real Training Camp with the Raptors on Tuesday, Fields was able to finally get his hands on a trophy he described as “surprisingly heavy” before […]

Sights & Sounds From Coaches Open House

panorama

The Raptors Coaches Open House has become one of the more unique events from the organization, as Dwane Casey and his staff share their knowledge and resources with local coaches looking to gain insight into how the pros practice.

Sunday was the second time the event took place and in addition to sessions with the entire coaching staff and full access to a Raptors practice, former NBA referee Steve Javie also was on hand to provide some invaluable perspective from an official with nearly 1,500 games worth of professional experience.

To get […]

Amir Johnson: “Let Me Try The Zombie Deal”

Amir Johnson takes part in the annual Toronto Zombie Walk. Photo courtesy of @IamAmirJohnson on Twitter.

If that particularly tall zombie in the photo above looks familiar, he should. It is, in fact, Amir Johnson in his latest and possibly greatest way to try something different in Toronto.

The annual Toronto Zombie Walk celebrated its tenth anniversary this past Saturday, but it was a first for Johnson.

“I had so much fun at Nuit Blanche, the art thing, so I was like, let me try the […]
