Game Preview: Raptors vs. Wizards

Don’t look now but the Raptors are suddenly in first place in the Atlantic Division and about to begin their longest homestand of the season, beginning with the Wizards tonight (7 PM ET, TSN2, TSN 1050).

It feels weird because they haven’t been in this position since 2007. It’s weird because their current 5-7 record feels completely earned, but somehow has them in this lofty spot (thanks for the slow start NYC-area teams).

When was the last time a team with a losing record lead any division this many games in? According […]

Throwback Thursday: The Banner

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors

Think of it like a Plinko board. At the beginning of a night of NBA action, each team drops their chips from the top. They race through barriers, taking unexpected detours due to buzzer beaters or controversial calls. And they settle into their respective win-loss slots at the bottom when the final buzzer drops.

The result of last night’s Price is Right party took the Raptors from 10th place to 4th place in the East and top spot in the Atlantic Division. Pretty decent chip drop.

The Raptors have finished […]

MLSE’s Tim Leiweke Sleeps Out For Covenant House

A sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard.

That’s all the comfort Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment CEO Tim Leiweke will be afforded as he joins 73 corporate and community leaders braving sub-zero temperatures at the Covenant House Executive Sleep Out, Thursday night in downtown Toronto.

The event supports $20 million in programs to provide shelter, food, education and support to the estimated 3,000 youths without shelter who turn to Covenant House every year.

For Leiweke the event holds a special relevance. He was 12-years-old when his mother’s death from cancer jolted a […]

Links: Box Score | Photos | Video Highlights & Post-Game Reaction

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Toronto Raptors are under .500 and on top of the Atlantic Division.

More games like this one and they’ll get that winning record.

DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points and Rudy Gay had 18 to help Toronto beat the Philadelphia 76ers 108-98 on Wednesday night.

In a down year so far in the Atlantic Division, the Raptors (5-7) wrested away first place from the Sixers (5-8).

“It’s a great accomplishment to be in that position,” guard Kyle Lowry said. “But we […]

Raptor Rehab is in full swing and has the inside details.

The NBA’s favourite mascot has been busy rehabbing his Achilles tendon injury with an eye to returning to the sidelines at Air Canada Centre this season.

We asked The Raptor to give us some tips he is using to speed up his recovery.

The five tips for #RaptorRehab:

1. Drink eight cups of water per day, preferably from a waterfall you can trust.

2. Limit complex carbohydrates such as mammals, especially late at night.

3. Try to avoid the fast food available in lagoons […]

Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri saw a labour of love enjoy a milestone on Sunday, as his Giants of Africa foundation celebrated its 10-year anniversary in Toronto.

Giants of Africa has used basketball as a tool to help enrich the lives of African youth with some impressive results over the last decade. Kids involved with the foundation’s Top 50 Camp and Big Man Camp have gone on to play at numerous levels, including American high schools and universities and junior club teams across Europe.

Links: Box Score | Photos | Video Highlights & Post-Game Reaction

TORONTO (AP) — A steady hand and cool demeanour helped Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points each as Portland shot its way to a 118-110 overtime victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Nicolas Batum added a season-high 24, and the Blazers overcame a late push by Toronto to pick up their sixth straight victory.

“We didn’t have a reason to be all riled up,” Lillard said. “They played well getting back into the game. […]

Game Preview: Raptors vs. Blazers

ross_blazers576 Preview | Game Notes | Saturday Practice Video

We’ll get a good look at the resiliency of the Raptors when the Portland Trail Blazers come to town on Sunday afternoon (1 PM ET, Sportsnet, Sportsnet 590 The FAN).

The Raptors have been all over the map this week. They pushed the Rockets to double overtime despite some serious offensive woes in Houston and then manhandled the Grizzlies in Memphis. But they’re coming off a listless 96-80 loss to the Bulls on Friday, which would have been much worse if not […]

DeRozan Ties Career-High With 37 Points In Raptors Loss To Bulls

Links: Box Score | Photos | Video Highlights & Post-Game Reaction

TORONTO (AP) — Playing without Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls still cruised past the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.

Their next game likely will be much more difficult, especially if their star point guard is unable to play again.

Luol Deng had 19 points, Joakim Noah scored a season-high 18 and the Chicago Bulls overcame Rose’s absence to beat Toronto 96-80 for their first road win of the season.

Noah was 7 for 10 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. […]
