Raptors Crush Hawks For Fourth Straight Win

ATLANTA (CP) — The Atlanta Hawks want to be well-rested for the playoffs.

They certainly didn’t use up any energy Tuesday night.

DeMar DeRozan scored 30 points, Rudy Gay added 22 and the Toronto Raptors ran all over the playoff-bound Hawks, 113-96.

The Raptors made two-thirds of their shots in the first half, sprinting to a 68-51 lead as DeRozan scored 19 points and Gay chipped in with 17. Atlanta went mostly with backups, showing no sense of urgency to claim the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.

“I’m going to err on ...

rapsnets041413_12

TORONTO (CP) — Two games from the end of their NBA season, the Toronto Raptors prefer to see themselves as a work in progress, with every game being a chance to improve for next season.

Raptors Hold On To Put Away Bulls 97-88 At ACC

rapsbulls041213_4

TORONTO (CP) — With little left on the line for the lottery-bound Toronto Raptors, coach Dwane Casey has been preaching to his players about being competitive.

He liked what he saw Friday.

With 5:33 left in the third quarter, a frustrated Chicago Bulls guard Richard Hamilton threw a hard forearm that caught DeMar DeRozan under the chin and promptly got Hamilton ejected from the game _ a 97-88 Raptors victory.

“I liked that, the officials made the call but I liked that of our guys. No back-down,” Casey said. “That’s what we’re trying ...

Latest “Jam Session” Helps Acy Find His Way In April

In a final stretch that has been designated for development of the youngest Raptors, Quincy Acy is beginning to make his mark.

The rugged rookie forward out of Baylor returned from his second stint with NBA D-League’s Bakersfield Jam on March 26th and in April, he’s seen his numbers with the Raptors rise to season-high averages of 6.6 points and three rebounds in just under 17 minutes per game.

It’s a small sample size, but Acy’s teammates have noticed an improved player since his return.

“He’s been playing extremely hard,” noted Kyle Lowry ...

Valanciunas Could Be Back Friday

The play of rookie Jonas Valanciunas has been a bright spot for the Raptors.

Even when he isn’t around people are talking about Jonas Valanciunas.

Valanciunas missed practice yesterday to have his injured neck examined as the Raptors prepared for their Friday date against Chicago.

Valanciunas hurt his neck Tuesday against the Bulls but Raptors coach Dwane Casey said it’s possible the Lithuanian rookie could be back in the lineup in time for Friday’s rematch.

“It’s not as bad as we first thought,” Casey said. “Right now he’s still in the soft brace. He’ll be a game-time decision for Friday but if it’s anywhere close we won’t ...
