Sights & Sounds From Coaches Open House

panorama

The Raptors Coaches Open House has become one of the more unique events from the organization, as Dwane Casey and his staff share their knowledge and resources with local coaches looking to gain insight into how the pros practice.

Sunday was the second time the event took place and in addition to sessions with the entire coaching staff and full access to a Raptors practice, former NBA referee Steve Javie also was on hand to provide some invaluable perspective from an official with nearly 1,500 games worth of professional experience.

Amir Johnson: “Let Me Try The Zombie Deal”

Amir Johnson takes part in the annual Toronto Zombie Walk. Photo courtesy of @IamAmirJohnson on Twitter.

If that particularly tall zombie in the photo above looks familiar, he should. It is, in fact, Amir Johnson in his latest and possibly greatest way to try something different in Toronto.

The annual Toronto Zombie Walk celebrated its tenth anniversary this past Saturday, but it was a first for Johnson.

“I had so much fun at Nuit Blanche, the art thing, so I was like, let me try the […]

Making A Difference In Montreal

Game day in Montreal allowed members of the Raptors organization to reach out to the community and make a difference in the lives of some great fans.

First up was the Raptor and members of the Raptors Dance Pak paying a visit to patients at Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, over at the Bell Centre, some local coaches affiliated with Basketball Québec were able to sit in on the morning shootaround and see how head coach Dwane Casey and his staff prepare for the evening’s matchup against the Knicks.

Bargnani, Davis Limited In Thursday’s Practice

The revolving door of minor preseason injuries continues for the Raptors. In terms of good news, rookie swingman Terrence Ross was a full participant at practice on Thursday after sitting out of Wednesday’s win against the Wizards with a sore left knee.

But gain one healthy body, go down two more as Andrea Bargnani (left calf contusion) and Ed Davis (lower body soreness) were limited in what they could do on Thursday.

Bargnani took a hit from an unidentified Wizard to the same calf that sidelined him for so much of last […]

Lowry Poised To Return Against Wizards

Barring some kind of setback, it appears newly-acquired point guard Kyle Lowry will play in Wednesday’s preseason matchup with the Washington Wizards at ACC (7 PM ET, NBATV Canada).

Lowry has been sidelined with a strained adductor muscle since the end of the team’s training camp in Halifax but after going through the team’s last two practices, seems ready to see his first preseason action. Positive Start For Valanciunas

Call it small first step for Jonas Valanciunas.

The Raptors rookie centre saw just over 13 minutes of work in his first appearance on Wednesday since suffering a calf strain and finished with two points and two blocks (I saw three) in a Raptors 101-99 loss to the Pistons.

Head coach Dwane Casey said Valanciunas did an “excellent job” given the context of his first game and competition in the form of a big Detroit frontline.

“He was where he was supposed to be a lot on his offensive sets and […]

Valanciunas Could Debut Against Pistons

The wait to see Jonas Valanciunas in action may be over soon.

That was the news out of Tuesday’s practice, as it was revealed the rookie centre participated in full contact drills at Tuesday’s practice and, as a result, could be ready to see minutes on Wednesday against the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

“We’re going to see how his body feels tomorrow after going through today and then we’ll make the decision,” said head coach Dwane Casey. “Again, the young man hasn’t done anything for us in […]
