USA Basketball has announced that Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan is one of 12 players selected to represent the United States at the 2014 FIBA World Cup of Basketball being held August 30-September 14 in Spain. The selections were announced by USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team program Managing Director Jerry Colangelo following the USA’s 112-86 exhibition victory over Puerto Rico at Madison Square Garden.

DeRozan, 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, was selected ninth overall by the Raptors in the 2009 NBA Draft. He finished ninth in NBA scoring during the 2013-14 campaign with a career-high 22.7 points. DeRozan also posted career highs for rebounds (4.3), assists (4.0) and minutes (38.2). For his efforts he was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the first time in his career.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this team,” DeRozan said. “This is what all my hard work is for and I’m glad that it has paid off.

“I look forward to continuing to put in the work and doing whatever I can to contribute to the team’s success and bringing back gold.”

The following players will join DeRozan on the 2014 USA Basketball World Cup team: DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings); Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors); Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets); Rudy Gay (Sacramento Kings); James Harden (Houston Rockets); Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers); Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn Nets); Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls); and Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors).

Rounding out Krzyzewski’s coaching staff as assistant coaches are Syracuse University and Naismith Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau and New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams.

“The first thing is we are very pleased with the overall effort of every player who was a part of the process,” said Krzyzewski. “To select twelve was difficult, because our pool is so good. As we go forward, we not only go forward as twelve, we go forward as a pool for USA Basketball. As a staff we want to thank the players who are not going forward.

“I’m excited about the 12 players selected and feel we have excellent versatility and the makings of a really good defensive team.”

The USA will complete its pre-World Cup exhibition tour on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. Training August 24-25, the U.S. will close out its exhibition tour on August 26 facing Slovenia at Gran Canaria Arena. The USA team will complete its training for the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) Basketball World Cup August 28-29 in Bilbao, Spain, the site of its World Cup preliminary round games.

The 2014 World Cup, featuring a total of 24 national teams, is scheduled to be held August 30-September 14 in Spain. The USA will play its preliminary round games in Bilbao, after being drawn into Group C along with teams from the Dominican Republic, Finland, New Zealand, Turkey and Ukraine.

The USA opens the 2014 World Cup on August 30 against Finland, and then faces Turkey on August 31 in a rematch of the 2010 FIBA World Championship gold medal game, a contest in which the USA claimed an 81-64 victory. Following a day off on September 1, the USA resumes play September 2 facing New Zealand. The U.S. will go against the Dominican Republic on September 3 and will conclude its preliminary play on September 4 facing Ukraine.

Each team at the 2014 World Cup will play the other teams in its preliminary group, and the top four finishing teams from each of the four preliminary round groups will then qualify for the round of 16. Winners of the round of 16 games will advance to the quarterfinals, while losers are eliminated. Winners of the quarterfinals games will advance to the medal round semifinals, while the quarterfinals losers are eliminated from the competition. Winners of the semifinals will advance to the September 14 gold medal game, while semifinals losers will meet in the bronze medal game on September 13. The games from the round of 16 to the semifinals will be played in Barcelona and Madrid, and the bronze and gold medal games will be held in Madrid.

The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday their 2014-15 regular season schedule. The club will tip-off its 20th anniversary season in the National Basketball Association at Air Canada Centre on Wednesday, October 29 versus the Atlanta Hawks. This also marks the fifth time in the past six seasons and the 14th time in team history the club has started the regular season at home. Toronto’s road debut is set for Saturday, November 1 at Orlando.

The Raptors will face a stretch of nine of 11 contests (February 20 – March 10) away from home as well as six of their final eight games (April 1-14). The two home games in April are the fewest in franchise history for an 82-game schedule.

The longest home stand of the season is seven games November 7-21, which equals the club record set March 21 – April 3, 2012 and November 30 – December 14 in the 1999-2000 campaign. The team also has a six-game home stand January 8-18 and a five-gamer February 2-11. The longest road swing is six games which takes place from December 22 – January 4.

Noteworthy home games on the 2014-15 schedule include two visits from LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 5 and March 4, along with Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls on November 13 and March 25. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder make an early-season appearance as the season’s second opponent at Air Canada Centre on November 4. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin bring their high-flying Los Angeles Clippers to Toronto on February 6 and the lone Toronto visit from Tim Duncan and the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs happens two days later February 8. Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers make their only Toronto trek of the season March 27.

The 2014-15 schedule features a return to US national television with the Raptors playing once on TNT (November 13 versus Chicago), three times on ESPN (December 17 versus Brooklyn, April 8 at Charlotte and April 15 versus Charlotte), and five times on NBA TV.

Toronto will play its 11th season in the Atlantic Division, joining Boston, Brooklyn, New York and Philadelphia. The Raptors were a member of the Central Division from 1995-2004.

The schedule features four games against divisional foes with two home and two away. The remaining 10 conference teams will be played twice at home and on the road with the exception of four teams – two will be played once at home and twice on the road (Indiana and Miami) and two will be faced twice at home and once on the road (Milwaukee and Washington). Each Western Conference team will be played once at home and on the road.

The busiest day for the Raptors this season will be Friday with 19 games. Wednesday is the busiest day at home with 11 contests, followed by 10 on Friday. Friday also features a high of nine road games.

The Raptors’ busiest month is October/November with 17 games. The busiest home month is October/November with 11 games, while the busiest road month is December with the Raptors facing nine games away from Toronto.

The Raptors will have 19 back-to-back games this season (up one from the past two seasons), with a high of seven being a tie between a home game followed by a road game and a road game followed by a road game.

The Raptors’ 2014-15 local television schedule will be released at a later date. For the ninth consecutive season, all 82 Raptors games will be aired nationally in Canada.

For the 2014-15 season Monday-Saturday home games will start at 7:30 p.m. (with the exception of the two home games national televised in the US) and Sunday home games will tip at 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m. or 7 p.m.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Following the completion of its July 28-Aug. 1 training camp in Las Vegas, USA Basketball National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo today announced that 16 players have been selected finalists for the 2014 USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Team roster. The USA National Team is scheduled to resume its 2014 preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup on Aug. 14 in Chicago.

The finalists include three Olympic gold medalists from 2012 – Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder) and James Harden (Houston Rockets); three 2010 World Championship gold medalists – Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors); Durant and Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls); and the addition of Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn Nets) to the 2014-16 USA National Team roster and to the list of finalists participating in Chicago. Plumlee began the Las Vegas training camp as a member of the 2014 USA Select Team.

Selected USA World Cup Team finalists were DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings);Curry; Davis; DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Durant; Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets); Harden; Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz); Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers); Kyle Korver (Atlanta Hawks); Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers); Chandler Parsons (Dallas Mavericks); Plumlee; Rose; and Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors).

“The ending to our Las Vegas training camp with the injury to Paul George was very emotional for everyone involved in USA Basketball. I very much appreciate the outpouring of support Paul and USA Basketball has received the past couple of days from the basketball world. Past Olympic coaches and some of our past Olympic and World Championship players have reached out offering their continued support and that’s very important. Paul’s injury was an extremely unfortunate occurrence; it was truly a freak accident. We’re all very pleased that his recovery is going well,” said Colangelo.

“We have always approached representing our country as a privilege, a tremendous honor, and USA Basketball is very appreciative of the willingness of our players to play for the United States and in their own patriotic way give back to their country. Historically, the players involved in USA Basketball have become better players because of their experience. They have treasured their USA Basketball experience, as well as the incredible opportunity and honor it has been for them to demonstrate their patriotism and represent their country.

“Their willingness to represent the United States says a lot about our players’ patriotism and their willingness to sacrifice their time to this commitment.  Not every American has the opportunity to represent their country and our players have embraced each opportunity to do it. They have worn the USA jersey with respect and honor, and by their commitment they have made all Americans extremely proud.”

While training in Chicago, the 16 selected finalists will be actively involved in the 2014 World Basketball Festival that is being held Aug. 13-17, and which is being hosted by NIKE, Jordan Brand and USA Basketball.

“We had an excellent training camp in Las Vegas and each player gave a great effort and deserves recognition and thanks for his commitment and hard work. We’ve said all along that we would be proud to have any of the players who were in Las Vegas represent USA Basketball and the United States. This phase of the selection process was extremely difficult and very thorough, and it’s worth again mentioning that we are looking to select the best team, which are not necessarily the best players. We’re pleased with where we are at this point of our training and we’re looking forward to getting back on the court and continuing our preparations to represent the United States at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup,” said Colangelo.

The 2014-16 USA Basketball National Team coaching staff features USA head coach and Duke University’s Naismith Hall of Fame mentor Mike Krzyzewski. Serving as assistant coaches are USA Basketball and Syracuse University and Naismith Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau and New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams.

The USA finalists will practice Aug. 14-15 at the Quest Multisport Complex, Chicago, and play an exhibition contest versus Brazil at the United Center on Aug. 16 (8 p.m. CDT).

“We’re excited about where the team is headed. Really all 16 guys have a chance to make to the team, which usually does not happen in a training camp, and it shows that all of the guys thus far have done an excellent job. Then it’s just a matter of finding what chemistry that we can develop with the entire group and I don’t think we’ll know that until we play some exhibition games. The 16 guys give us a chance to look at a way of playing in a number of different ways and we just have to figure out what those ways are and then the 12 who will fit best,” said Krzyzewski.

The American squad will continue its World Cup preparations Aug. 18-22 in New York, and play a pair of exhibition games at Madison Square Garden, Aug. 20 against Dominican Republic, and Aug. 22 versus Puerto Rico. The USA will complete its pre-World Cup exhibition tour on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. Training Aug. 24-25, the U.S. will close out its exhibition tour on Aug. 26 facing Slovenia at Gran Canaria Arena. Conducting a basketball clinic for youth on Aug. 27 in Dakar, Senegal, the USA team will complete its training for the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) Basketball World Cup Aug. 28-29 in Bilbao, Spain, the site of its World Cup preliminary round games,

The 2014 World Cup, featuring a total of 24 national teams, is scheduled to be held Aug. 30-Sept. 14 in Spain. The USA will play its preliminary round games in Bilbao, after being drawn into Group C along with teams from the Dominican Republic, Finland, New Zealand, Turkey and Ukraine.

The USA opens the 2014 World Cup on Aug. 30 against Finland, and then faces Turkey on Aug. 31 in a rematch of the 2010 FIBA World Championship gold medal game, a contest in which the USA claimed an 81-64 victory. Following a day off on Sept. 1, the USA resumes play Sept. 2 facing New Zealand. The U.S. will go against the Dominican Republic on Sept. 3, and will conclude its preliminary play on Sept. 4 facing Ukraine.

Winners of the semifinals will advance to the Sept. 14 gold medal game, while semifinals losers will meet in the bronze medal game on Sept. 13.  The games from the round of 16 to the semifinals will be played in Barcelona and Madrid, and the bronze and gold medal games will be held in Madrid.

Nogueira has played since 2009 with Asefa Estudiantes in Spain’s Liga ACB. The native of Sao Goncalo, Brazil averaged 6.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 16.0 minutes in 18 games during the 2013-14 season. Over the course of the series, five celebrities will take on the identity of an iconic music performer. They could find themselves transformed into someone far older, younger or even someone of the opposite sex. In addition to Fields, the other four celebrities include Sebastian Bach, Jon Lovitz, China Anne McClain and Lisa Rinna.

From the hours in the makeup chair to the days spent with choreographers and vocal coaches, each show will feature the complete transformation. Viewers will get the chance to see each of the celebrities portray multiple musical performers during the series — such as Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Pavarotti, Pitbull, Britney Spears and Tina Turner.

John Barrowman is the host.  Debbie Gibson and Darrell Hammond are the primary judges; while guest judges along the way will include David Allen Grier, RuPaul, Carnie Wilson, Richard Simmons, Tom Arnold, and Carmen Electra. For more information on “Sing Your Face Off,” visit ABC.com.

The NBA announced Tuesday that Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey and guard-forward John Salmons will participate in the 2014 Basketball without Borders (BWB) program.

The schedule will feature first-time camps in Taipei, Taiwan and Rome, Italy, and will return to Johannesburg, South Africa. Basketball without Borders, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development program, has reached 1,700 campers from more than 120 countries, with 28 BWB campers drafted into the NBA.

Casey, along with fellow head coaches Brian Shaw (Denver Nuggets) and Jeff Hornacek (Phoenix Suns), former All-Star Andrei Kirilenko (Brooklyn Nets) and Thabo Sefolosha (Oklahoma City Thunder) will participate in BWB Africa. The camp returns to Johannesburg for the 11th time from August 5 – 8 and will bring together the top 60 African players born in 1997 or 1998 from more than 20 African countries.

Salmons will join Nicolas Batum (Portland Trail Blazers), Ronny Turiaf (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Cody Zeller (Charlotte Bobcats) in Taipei from June 13 – 16 to help tip off BWB Asia. Eight-time NBA All-Star Yao Ming will make a one-day appearance. BWB Asia 2014 will bring together the top 50 players born in 1996 or 1997 from more than 20 Asian and Oceanic countries.

BWB Europe will start the summer schedule from June 2 – 5 in Rome. Highlighting the camp will be three current Italian NBA players and former BWB campers: Danilo Gallinari (BWB 2003, Denver Nuggets), Andrea Bargnani (BWB 2003, New York Knicks), and Italian national team captain Gigi Datome (BWB 2003, Detroit Pistons). In addition, Brandon Knight (Milwaukee Bucks) and Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks) will also participate. BWB Europe 2014 will bring together the top 50 players born in 1997 from more than 25 European countries. The camp was held previously in Treviso, Italy in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

“Basketball without Borders helped me become the player and man I am today, both on and off the court,” said Gallinari. “Learning basketball and life skills from NBA players and coaches is a special opportunity that I greatly appreciated in 2003, and that I know this year’s campers will greatly appreciate. I look forward to bringing the amazing BWB program back to Italy with some of my fellow countrymen, and to coaching some of the most talented teenagers in Europe. I can’t wait to get started.”

Through NBA Cares, the league’s global social responsibility program, all three camps will include extensive community outreach efforts led by NBA players and coaches. Through grassroots basketball development, community service, and life skill seminars, BWB will focus on teaching the values of the game, including leadership, respect, character and health and wellness. In addition, donations of school supplies, clothing, books, games, basketball equipment and other necessities will be made to local community-based organizations.

Nike, a BWB global partner since 2002, will again outfit the campers and coaches of all three camps with Nike apparel and footwear.

Since its inception, the NBA and FIBA have staged 36 BWB camps in 21 cities across 18 countries on five continents. More than 150 different current and former NBA/WNBA players have joined nearly 140 NBA team personnel from all 30 NBA teams.

Toronto Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri announced Tuesday the club and head coach Dwane Casey have agreed in principle on a new three-year contract through the 2016-17 season. Casey guided the Raptors to a team-record 48 victories and an Atlantic Division championship in 2013-14.

“From day one last summer Dwane has done an excellent job both on-and-off the court,” said Ujiri. “There’s been growth from each player on the roster and the team’s identity of toughness and a desire to always compete has clearly been established.
“We’re very excited to continue to grow and develop this team with Dwane as our head coach.”

Casey incorporated four new players into the roster following an early December trade and from that point forward led the Raptors to the best mark in the Eastern Conference at 41-22. He directed the club to eight victories in the final 11 games in December and was rewarded with NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month honours. His 2013-14 squad finished in the Top 10 in the NBA in defensive field goal percentage (.450) and points allowed (98.0), and also posted a franchise-best 22 road wins.

“I thank Tim (Leiweke) and Masai for providing me and my staff the platform this season to coach and now to continue the process of developing this young team,” said Casey. “We have taken some big steps toward our goal of installing a culture and a defensive mindset.

“At the same time we realize the challenge ahead in order to complete our quest to build a championship program for the best fans in the NBA!”

In his third season at the helm of the Raptors, Casey continued to oversee the development of a young nucleus. Toronto was the only team this past season with two second-year starters to reach the postseason. Point guard Kyle Lowry established career highs in scoring (17.9) and assists (7.4), guard DeMar DeRozan earned his first All-Star selection, sophomore forward Terrence Ross moved into a starting role in December and increased his scoring average by 5.7 points and second-year centre Jonas Valanciunas led the team in double-doubles (25).

Casey was named head coach of the Raptors on June 21, 2011, just nine days after he helped lead the Dallas Mavericks to the 2011 NBA Championship. He earned his 100th career victory as head coach of the Raptors on April 2 with a 107-103 win versus Houston.

Casey has served as a head coach, associate head coach and assistant coach during his 19 seasons in the NBA.

The logo incorporates past and present team designs to honour the history of the club since its inception in 1995. The logo is anchored by the original Raptors font and jagged pinstripe jersey design with the current claw secondary mark.

“This anniversary logo embodies the excitement of both the future and the past of Raptors basketball, but most importantly, it reminds us of the success and history we’re working to create here,” said Tim Leiweke, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. “The next year promises to be one of the most important yet in team history as we celebrate the Raptors’ 20th Anniversary, but also prepare for the chance to welcome the world with the 2016 NBA All Star Game.”

The 20th Anniversary logo will be prominently featured in franchise creative for 2014-15 and a variation of the logo will be worn as a patch on the team’s home uniforms next season. The club will announce details at later dates regarding unique 20th Anniversary events to be held throughout the 2014-15 campaign.

This year’s event will take place February 15 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and will be broadcasted on TSN2 and TNT beginning at 8:00 p.m. (ET).

Through 49 games this season, Ross is averaging 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 25.6 minutes, while shooting .393 (90-for-229) from three-point range. He scored a career-high 51 points January 25 versus the Los Angeles Clippers, matching Vince Carter’s franchise record set 14 years ago (February 27, 2000 vs. Phoenix). Ross is one of three players in the NBA to score 50 points this season – Carmelo Anthony (62), Kevin Durant (54).

Ross is the fifth Raptor to participate in the NBA slam dunk contest, joining Vince Carter (2000), Tracy McGrady (2000), Jamario Moon (2008) and DeMar DeRozan (2010 and 2011).

This year’s event will feature the participants competing as a team – three players representing the Eastern Conference and three players representing the Western Conference – in an above-the-rim two-round format.  In a significant first in the event’s history, the competition will tip off with a Freestyle Round where the dunkers for each conference will have 90 seconds to showcase as many dunks as they want.  At the conclusion of the Freestyle Round, the panel of judges will then choose a winner by voting “East” or “West.”  The winning conference will earn the advantage of deciding whether its dunkers will dunk first or second in the head-to-head battles that take place in the Battle Round.

The Battle Round will feature head-to-head matchups pitting East dunkers vs. West dunkers, with the judges choosing a winner for each battle.  Upon losing a head-to-head battle, that dunker is then eliminated from the competition.  The first team to win three battles will win the competition and be crowned 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk champions.

After the competition, fans will also have the opportunity to vote for the player of their choice as “Dunker of the Night” through SMS, Twitter, NBA.com and the NBA GameTime app.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge will take place February 15 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and will be broadcasted on TSN2 and TNT beginning at 8:00 p.m. (ET).

DeRozan was recently named as a reserve to the Eastern Conference team for the 2014 All-Star Game. He became the fourth Raptor selected to the game, joining Vince Carter (5X), Antonio Davis and Chris Bosh (5X). New Orleans will mark DeRozan’s third appearance at NBA All-Star Weekend. He participated in the Sprite Slam Dunk in 2010 and 2011 and played in the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge.

DeRozan was selected ninth overall in the 2009 NBA Draft. This season he is averaging career highs in points (22.0), rebounds (4.6), assists (3.8), steals (1.17), blocks (0.45) and minutes (37.6). DeRozan ranks 12th in the NBA in scoring and seventh in minutes. He has scored 30 or more points six times this year, including a career-high 40 points January 22 vs. Dallas.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge is introducing a new format that features four teams of two players each competing in a two-round timed relay-style course consisting of dribbling, passing and shooting stations.

Representing the Eastern Conference are DeRozan and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee) on one team, and Michael Carter-Williams (Philadelphia) and Victor Oladipo (Orlando) on the other.

Joining Damian Lillard (Portland) on one Western Conference team is Trey Burke (Utah), while Reggie Jackson (Oklahoma City) and Goran Dragic (Phoenix) comprise the other.

All teams must observe basic NBA ball-handling rules while completing the course. The fastest team from each Conference during the First Round will advance to the Championship Round. The fastest team in the Championship Round will win the 2014 Taco Bell Skills Challenge.
