MLSE Foundation may have not won the game, but it certainly went home a winner Monday at the Toronto Raptors intrasquad scrimmage at the Casino Rama Entertainment Centre.
With a $100,000 donation to MLSE Foundation, Casino Rama hopes to make an impact and improve the lives of youth through sports. Fans attending the scrimmage were also encouraged to make a donation to further supplement the $100,000 Casino Rama contribution.
With a recent partnership with Right to Play, MLSE Foundation has made the commitment to fund sports programming in aboriginal communities across Ontario, including two neighbouring Rama communities, Beausoleil First Nation and Henvey Inlet First Nation.
This intrasquad scrimmage marks the second year Casino Rama has hosted a basketball event in its entertainment complex. It has also hosted a variety of other sporting events including TSN Curling Skins, Rock & Roll Gymnastic Tour featuring United States and Canadian Olympians, tennis matches featuring John McEnroe, world-title boxing matches, Bellator MMA and even the Chinese Table Tennis Team. Located in Rama, Ontario, Casino Rama plays host to more than 150 concerts and events a year.
The MLSE Foundation believes all kids should have access to sport and the opportunity to develop lasting dreams on the playing field. With the support of all four MLSE teams – the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC and Toronto Marlies – the Foundation funds the refurbishment of local athletic facilities and programs that support kids through sports and recreation. Since launching in December 2009, the MLSE Foundation has invested more than $9.5 million into our community. Last season, more than 110,000 kids’ lives were impacted through the power of sport.
