Valanciunas Named To NBA All-Rookie Second Team

The play of rookie Jonas Valanciunas has been a bright spot for the Raptors.

The NBA announced Tuesday that centre Jonas Valanciunas has been named to the 2012-13 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Valanciunas becomes the 10th player in team history to receive All-Rookie honours, joining Damon Stoudamire (1995-96), Marcus Camby (1996-97), Vince Carter (1998-99), Morris Peterson (2000-01), Chris Bosh (2003-04), Charlie Villanueva (2005-06), Andrea Bargnani (2006-07), Jorge Garbajosa (2006-07) and Jamario Moon (2007-08).

Valanciunas, a native of Utena, Lithuania, joined the Raptors after being selected fifth overall in the 2011 NBA Draft and spending the 2011-12 season playing overseas. He finished the year ranked third ...

Jonas Valanciunas Injury Update

Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas sustained a flexion extension injury of his neck in the final seconds of Tuesday’s victory in Chicago. He was taken to Rush Presbyterian Hospital for precautionary testing. Test results were negative.

Valanciunas will be reevaluated Thursday in Toronto.

Valanciunas Named Eastern Conference Rookie Of The Month For March

The National Basketball Association announced Friday that Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas was named NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for March 2013. Valanciunas is the eighth Raptors player to win the award, joining Jamario Moon (January 2008), Andrea Bargnani (January and February 2007), Jorge Garbajosa (December 2006), Charlie Villanueva (December 2005), Vince Carter (March and April 1999), Marcus Camby (March 1997) and Damon Stoudamire (November 1995 and January 1996).

Valanciunas averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.07 blocks and 27.1 minutes in 15 games (14 starts). He shot .620 (67-108) ...

Landry Fields Update

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday forward-guard Landry Fields will miss tonight’s game versus Detroit to receive follow-up testing on his right elbow. Fields underwent ulnar nerve transposition surgery November 14 to address compression/entrapment in his right elbow.

Fields will be seen by Dr. Vernon Williams and Dr. Steve Shin at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.

Acy Recalled From Bakersfield Jam

The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday rookie forward Quincy Acy has been recalled from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League.

Acy was reassigned to the Jam on March 4. He appeared in 10 games, averaging 13.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 30.4 minutes. He posted highs of 17 points at Erie on March 9 and 12 rebounds on three occasions.

Andrea Bargnani Injury Update

The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday that forward Andrea Bargnani is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2012-13 season with an avulsion sprain of the right elbow. This injury is not related to his previous right elbow injury that sidelined him for 26 games (December 12 – February 3).

Bargnani left at the 3:08 mark in the first quarter March 8 against the Los Angeles Lakers and did not return. He appeared in 14 of 15 games prior to this injury, including four straight starts (March 2-8).

Acy Reassigned To Bakersfield Jam

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday they have reassigned forward Quincy Acy to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. Acy will continue to be included on the Raptors’ roster and will be placed on the team’s inactive list.

This is Acy’s second stint with the Jam this season. He appeared in three games from December 6-10, averaging 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 21.7 minutes. He posted highs of 18 points, five rebounds and 23 minutes in his debut December 7 at Reno.

Raptors Acquire Telfair From Suns For Haddadi, Pick

The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they have acquired veteran point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for centre Hamed Haddadi and a protected second-round draft pick in 2014.

“Acquiring Sebastian Telfair, who has played and started a fair number of NBA games during his career, addresses our depth issue at the point guard position,” said Raptors President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo.
