With a new Raptors season just on the horizon, it’s been a pretty fascinating week of nostalgia in these dog days of summer.
Last week, we saw President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Masai Ujiri in Johannesburg with none other than fellow Nigerian, former Raptor and Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.
This week, we’re seeing those more of those ties as Ujiri arranged for forwards Rudy Gay and Austin Daye to spend a week working with Olajuwon in Houston.

When Gay wasn’t working with The Dream this week, he was taking some time to salute another former Raptor a little more in his mold…
Tracy McGrady announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons on Sunday and the 34-year-old graciously acknowledged some stops on his professional journey, including Toronto — where the Raptors drafted him ninth overall out of high school back in 1997.

Any thoughts of McGrady in purple and pinstripes comes with a massive “what if?” thanks to his departure in 2000 after scratching the surface of his prodigious talent. But this was an undeniably classy gesture from a great player to the city where his career started.
