DeRozan Named To 2012 USA Basketball Men’s Select Team

DeMar DeRozan’s summer just got a little busier with the news that the shooting guard has been added to USA Basketball’s Olympic Select Roster.

Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball Chairman (and father of Raptors President and GM Bryan Colangelo) announced the addition of DeRozan to the roster of up-and-coming American players during Monday’s edition of the FAN 590’s Prime Time Sports (around the 7:10 mark).

The benefits for the Compton native — who averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and two assists per contest in his third full season with the Raptors — are ...

End Of Season Begins A New Chapter For Raptors

Full Season-Ending News Conference Playlists: Bryan Colangelo | Dwane Casey | Raptors Players

There is no blueprint without a beginning.

There can be no beginning without a careful study of a blueprint.

That’s where the Toronto Raptors are right now. They have a blueprint. As of last night’s win over New Jersey, they have their beginning.

This was a different kind of end of season. No one said the club was better than their record. No one is kidding themselves about a quick entry into the league elite. The club finished 23-43.

Casey A Witness of Tumult That Comes With Change

For someone who has lost twice as many games as he has won, Raptors coach Dwane Casey is drawing rave reviews.

The Raptors stand 17-34 but Casey’s mandate to install a new defensive-oriented mindset has taken root. The Raptors have lowered their points allowed to 95.26, down almost 10 points from last season.

Raptors.com writer Mike Ulmer spoke to the 54-year-old Casey about the agony of losing, the mechanics of improving players and what it was like to see the Ku Klux Klan as a seven-year-old in his tiny Morgantown, Ky. hometown.

Mike ...

Raptors Roster Down To Twelve

A thin Raptors roster got a little slimmer on Friday with the news that veteran forward Rasual Butler was waived by the club.

Butler, who was brought in for his defence and ability to stretch the floor on offence, never really found his shot this season– he connected on just 30 per cent of his shots from the field and hit at only a 27 per cent clip from beyond the arc.

His best game with the Raptors came against the Knicks in New York (tonight’s opponent) where he put up season-highs ...

Breaking Down Barbosa To The Pacers

Quick hits on the Raptors move to send Leandro Barbosa  to the Pacers for a second-round pick and cash.

a) The value of first-round picks in what’s believed to be a very strong draft seems very high. Look at the salary the Cavs had to take on just to get a low first-round pick to confirm that.

b) Barbosa, who’s an expiring deal, could be nothing more than a playoff run-rental for the ...
