Gay, DeRozan Power Raptors Past Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS (CP) — Rick Adelman’s milestone will have to wait — for another day at least.

Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan made sure about that.

Gay had 26 points and five rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to a rare road victory in the West, 95-93 over the Timberwolves on Friday night.

DeRozan had 25 points and Kyle Lowry added 11 points and seven assists for the Raptors, who beat the Timberwolves for the 16th time in 17 games and prevented Adelman from recording his 1,000th win as coach.

“We’re just learning more ...

Raptors Struggle To Stop Wizards In Latest Road Loss

WASHINGTON (CP) — As the Washington Wizards pursue their stated goal of finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference, seeing Bradley Beal back on the court was a welcome sight.

Beal scored 24 points in his return from a five-game absence, leading the Wizards to a 109-92 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night.

Emeka Okafor had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and John Wall added 18 points and 10 assists for Washington. The Wizards, who came in having lost two in a row on the road, won their seventh straight ...

Big Third Quarter Powers Raptors Past Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (CP) — Rudy Gay and the Toronto Raptors are out of the playoff picture and have just 10 games left before their season ends. That doesn’t mean they’re going to go quietly.

Gay scored 19 of his 21 points during a dominant third quarter and the Raptors ended a five-game skid with a 99-82 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.

Toronto led 46-45 at the break and took control by outscoring the Pistons 23-5 in the first eight minutes of the third period.

DeMar DeRozan also had ...

Raptors Can’t Come Back Against Bobcats In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CP) — Gerald Henderson is enjoying the best streak of his four-year NBA career, and the Charlotte Bobcats are playing better, too.

Henderson turned in another solid all-around game, Byron Mullens scored 25 points and the Bobcats beat the Toronto Raptors 107-101 on Wednesday night to win consecutive games for the first time since mid-November.

Henderson scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added seven rebounds and five assists. The soon-to-be restricted free agent is averaging 22.7 points on 50 per cent shooting in his last seven games, including ...

Raptors Can’t Hold Off Bryant, Lakers In OT

LOS ANGELES (CP) — Kobe Bryant’s steely determination never wavers. It’s his 34-year-old body he sometimes wonders about.

He skipped pre-game shootaround because his shoulders were tight, and he was feeling weary in overtime.

But Bryant found enough energy to hit the tying 3-pointer with 5 seconds to play in regulation, then dunked for the go-ahead basket with 10 seconds left in the extra session, helping the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 118-116 on Friday night for their second straight come-from-behind win.

They rallied from 25 points down to beat ...

Raptors Can’t Hold Lead In Road Loss To Cavaliers

CLE_rudy300_022713

CLEVELAND (CP) — Kyrie Irving isn’t the only Cavaliers guard with killer instinct on the court.

When the game’s on the line, Dion Waiters wants the spotlight — and the ball.

“I live for that,” the rookie said.

Waiters scored 23 points, his last two coming on a crucial jumper with 1:43 left, Shaun Livingston added 15 and Cleveland overcame a horrendous start to win its second straight game without an injured Irving, 103-92 over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

The Cavs made only one of their first 15 shots, but recovered ...
