Post-Shootaround Notes From Boston

News/notes ahead of tonight’s Raptors preseason opener against the Celtics at TD Garden (7:30 PM ET)

Familiar Five:  Head coach Dwane Casey has said he intends to use the preseason to mix and match lineups, but expect the Raptors to start with the same group that finished last season in Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas.

Pair Of Ex-Pacers:  That being said, Casey has always placed a greater emphasis on who finishes games for him and really feels that he’s got some  reserves at his disposal who can ...

Raptors Camp Wraps In Halifax With Intra-Squad Game

Some thoughts after Team Black’s 92-64 win over Team Gray in a spirited Raptors intra-squad game to wrap up Training Camp in Halifax.

– Yes, it was just an intra-squad scrimmage. No, it shouldn’t diminish DeMar DeRozan taking four three-pointers on Saturday and drilling a three of them on his way to a game-high 21 points.

Long distance shooting has been a huge focal point for DeRozan this past offseason, as he attempts to improve upon his 28.3 per cent shooting from behind the arc in 2012-13 (a career-best mark).

The camp is designed to give boys and girls, entry level and intermediate levels, the opportunity to develop their shooting, passing, ball handling and defense skills. The academy ...

Checking Out With The Raptors From Las Vegas

Thoughts after a wrapping up with the Raptors at another NBA Summer League experience in Las Vegas….

– This isn’t exactly an original sentiment and I fully acknowledge that it means nothing in the grand scheme, but Jonas Valanciunas was certainly Raptors MVP at NBA Summer League, should make the All-Tournament Team and deserves serious consideration for Summer League MVP.  [EDIT: Done and DONE!]

We’ve mentioned his noticeable development in terms of size and skill. Now bring on EuroBasket 2013, where the competition should ramp up considerably.

Acy Takes Aim

– Quincy Acy will always ...

Raptors Win Fifth Straight. Questions Start Now.

The Raptors are anxious to see what they can achieve with Rudy Gay playing a full season.

The Raptors are anxious to see what they can achieve with Rudy Gay playing a full season.

Four and 19.

No matter how you look at, the Raptors disappointing 34-48 season turned on the club’s first 23 games and their inability to win more than four of them.

But there are other numbers as well.

Start with 18-17. That’s the club’s record since they acquired Rudy Gay on January 30.

How about 19.5 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. Those are Gay’s numbers as a Raptor.

There are more. Amir Johnson’s career best 10 points ...

Raptors Build Big Lead & Hang On For Road Win Over Bulls

CHICAGO (CP) — There wasn’t much Rudy Gay could do except shrug off the collision and hope his teammate wasn’t seriously injured.

The fact that Jonas Valanciunas left the court on a gurney with a neck injury sure did take the shine off a wild win, though.

DeMar DeRozan scored 20 points, and the Toronto Raptors beat the Chicago Bulls 101-98 on Tuesday night.

Gay added 19 but collided with Valanciunas during a scramble in the closing seconds, resulting in a neck injury for the Raptors’ centre and an overnight stay for ...

Slow Start Buries Raptors In Latest Loss To Bucks

MILWAUKEE (CP) — The Milwaukee Bucks wanted to lock up their playoff spot quickly, and Monta Ellis made sure they did.

Ellis had 22 points, nine assists and six steals, and the Bucks clinched their first playoff berth in three seasons with a 100-83 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday night.

“It feels great,” Ellis said. “We needed this game tonight. We knew how big it was for us. Now we can start getting focused on finishing the season, trying to go in a positive direction and get ready for ...
