The wait to see Jonas Valanciunas in action may be over soon.

That was the news out of Tuesday’s practice, as it was revealed the rookie centre participated in full contact drills at Tuesday’s practice and, as a result, could be ready to see minutes on Wednesday against the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

“We’re going to see how his body feels tomorrow after going through today and then we’ll make the decision,” said head coach Dwane Casey. “Again, the young man hasn’t done anything for us in ...

A History Lesson In Halifax

With an afternoon off in Halifax, head coach Dwane Casey traded the court for some culture, by taking a tour of the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia on Thursday.

For Casey, learning more about Halifax’s rich history and proud ties to the Undergraound Railroad was a priority with his team in town for training camp.

“I thought it was important just to see the historical part of Halifax while we’re here,” said Casey. “Especially [Halifax's role in] the Underground Railroad, which I have a cultural history with. I think that’s important not only ...

The Raptors tipped off Training Camp on Tuesday with their first of four two-a-day practice sessions this week at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax.  First up after the morning workout was head coach Dwane Casey, who spoke about an early focus on re-establishing the team’s defensive foundation early, a rough approximation of Kyle Lowry’s “swag quotient”, progress for third-year forward Ed Davis and much more.

An Early Setback For Valanciunas

Breath easy Raptors fans, Jonas Valanciunas is expected to be OK.

That was the news from the team’s latest voluntary workout on Monday, after it was revealed that the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft suffered a left calf strain during a shooting drill at Air Canada Centre on Saturday.

“He was here shooting Saturday morning with [assistant coach] Scott Roth, he went up to go into his shot and he felt something pop,” Dwane Casey told the media on Monday. “Your first thought is that it was his achilles ...

Q & A With Alex Rucker – Pt. 2

Analytics suggest that both Landry Fields (left) and Kyle Lowry (right) should be solid additions to the Raptors. (Ron Turenne/NBAE)

The opportunity to sit and chat with Raptors Director of Analytics Alex Rucker is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while. Advanced stats isn’t a topic we’ve heard a lot about with relation to the Raptors over the years and Rucker has been a big part of its recent growth within the organization.

Part two of our recent Q & A focused some key additions to the club including ...

Valanciunas, Kleiza Head To Houston With Lithuanian Team

It’s been all draft all the time the last couple of weeks, but let’s not forget about what a big summer of international basketball it’s going to be for some Raptors. Andrea Bargnani will not be a part of the Italian team aiming to qualify for the next EuroBasket tournament, but Jose Calderon will play a key role in Spain’s quest for gold at the Olympic Games and DeMar DeRozan gets a taste of the international stage with the U.S. Select Team.

But keep an eye on Lithuania, where both Linas ...
