Raptors Can’t Cap Comeback In Houston

It may have been the Raptors’ first of two matchups against a solid Rockets squad this season on Tuesday, but the script seemed to be a familiar one.

One letdown quarter — this time being the first — just proved too costly for a team with a near microscopic margin of error. To the Raptors’ credit, they battled incredibly hard down the stretch (with several starters on the bench) and had a shot to tie it down 86-83  with 11 seconds to play, but they couldn’t get a good look out […]

Raptors End First Half On Right Note

DET_1_022212

Wednesday’s win over the Pistons at ACC brought the Raptors brought a little validation after days of prep time and with the presence of an unexpected restricted free agent, might have hinted at some change on the horizon for the 10-23 club.

On the floor, the Raptors looked every bit the more rested, focused team. Their willingness to share the ball (30 assists on 40 made field goals), ability to execute offensively (52.6% shooting from the floor) and a renewed commitment to defence helped them build a big lead before hanging […]

After Lengthy Layoff, Raptors Ready To End First Half

photo(13)

After a breakneck pace to start this condensed season, the Raptors were back at practice Tuesday for a third time in four straight non-game days.

The long layoff has made it increasingly difficult for head coach Dwane Casey to get his team ready for actual game conditions, but on the plus side, it has also afforded him an opportunity to work on some key areas of concern such as slow starts and late-game execution.

More from coach Casey on matching up with a healthy Pistons team beginning to fire on all […]

Top Tweets From A Valentine’s Day Heartbreaker

Our #RTZ Tweet of the Night from @Iminfantasyland pretty much nailed it, huh?

Love was in the air on Valentine’s Day at Air Canada Centre on Tuesday — with a large (and loud) portion of that affection directed at Knicks point guard sensation Jeremy Lin.

We’ll leave it to other corners to remark on the latest chapter of an admittedly fantastic story in Lin. But there were other reasons to feel the love at ACC last night.

How about some for head coach Dwane Casey, who received his 2010-11 championship ring from his […]

Top Tweets From An Wild Afternoon At ACC

LAL_calderon300_021212

It was an absolute roller coaster of an afternoon at ACC on Sunday, which featured another awful start from the home side, an unlikely spark from Jamaal Magloire, Jose Calderon going supernova for a career-high 30 points, quiet Kobe, airball Kobe, a Raptors fourth-quarter comeback, killer Kobe, a devastating five-second violation, another last shot opportunity for a win, but ultimately a 94-92 loss.

I leave it to @jaypresident with our #RTZ Tweet of the Night to sum it more effectively in less than 140 characters:

Top 20 #RTZ  Tweets – Raptors vs. […]

Raptors Defence Slips In Loss To Bucks

For a team striving to build on a new foundation of defence, Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is starting to see cracks.

“I just mentioned to the team that we’ve lost that pride of guarding our yard,” Casey said after the Raptors’ 105-99 loss to the Bucks at ACC on Wednesday. “What we established in training camp has slipped.”

Defence was also on the mind of @jason_leite, who earned the #RTZ Tweet of the Night with the following:

For more on a good start, rough finish plus good performances from DeMar DeRozan and James […]

Raptors Can’t Use OT To Overcome Slow Start In DC

There’s no question the Raptors have work to do when it comes to getting off to better starts. If the Raptors showed the same intensity in the first half that they displayed late or at virtually any point in Miami on Sunday, we’d likely be discussing a different result right now.

But man, what a fourth quarter.

The Raptors clawed back down the stretch against the Wizards and both teams began going back and forth right through until the end of overtime, which prompted our tweet of the night from @__NICKeloden

Many of […]
