Shorthanded Raptors Crush Nets

NJN_davis810_012912

You can count Sunday’s convincing road win against the Nets as a high point in a season that’s bound to filled with more than a few peaks and valleys.

Whether it was winning without Andrea Bargnani and Leandro Barbosa, the reconfigured starting five, a possible breakout game for DeMar DeRozan or finishing a lengthy trip with a winning record, you had plenty to say about it in our nightly #RTZ chat on Twitter.

Raptors Win Second Straight, But Lose Bargnani…

Just an unbelievably bittersweet result from the Raptors on Wednesday night, as they leave it all on the floor in the second game of a back-to-back in Utah.

They’ll take the well-earned 111-106 double overtime road win to end their recent futility against the Jazz, but the greater concern has to be the well-being of Andrea Bargnani, who was forced to leave the first overtime period after aggravating his left calf strain.

According to @RaptorsPR, Bargnani will be re-examined tomorrow in Denver and we’ll bring you any updates as soon as we ...

Reeling Raptors Return To Practice At ACC

The Raptors were back on the practice court on Thursday – a January rarity for Dwane Casey and his team during a month of the schedule loaded with back-to-backs and unforgiving travel.

“Practices are precious,” said Casey on Thursday. “This is the second one we’ve had [this week] and it’s going to help us. Going into a [hotel] ballroom and walking through stuff as a young team just doesn’t simulate the game speed and the veteran savvy of a team like Boston or tomorrow night like Portland.”

Casey said he treated Thursday’s ...

Talking Valanciunas With Dzikic

It is past midnight in Lithuania but Alex Dzikic is still up.

The coach of Lietuvos Rytas in Vilnius (metropolitan population 850,000) is happy to accommodate a reporter’s call from North America.

“Anytime,” he says. “Call anytime.”

Dzikic is a 40-year-old Serb and a key figure in the aspirations of the Toronto Raptors. He is not on the Raps’ payroll. That doesn’t mean his work won’t benefit the NBA team.

Dzikic is nursing 19-year-old Jonas Valanciunas through the  season that includes play in the Lithuanian league, the VTB United League as well as Eurocup ...

Kleiza Returns & Your Reaction

kleiza_576_011112

Wednesday saw the return of Raptors forward Linas Kleiza to the lineup after nearly a year away from game action following microfracture knee surgery and the versatile forward provided a big boost off the bench with 10 points and three rebounds in 15 minutes.

“I feel good, it’s fun to be back,” said Kleiza post-game. “Of course the game didn’t end the way anybody wanted but for me personally, after a year off, it feels good to be back.

“I’ve got a lot of people to thank and this is just the ...

Post Game Reaction: Raptors Hold Off Wolves

Very solid bounce back effort from the Raptors at home on Monday, as they used monster nights from Andrea Bargnani (31 points, nine rebounds) and Amir Johnson (19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists) to earn a 97-87 win over the visiting Timberwolves. Here’s some of your reaction from our #RTZ in-game chat.

Carlisle With Some Early Praise For Raptors

Another hard fought, but uneven performance for the Raptors in Dallas on Friday and the score isn’t really indicative of the level of play in a 99-86 defeat.

The veteran Mavs used a run late in the third quarter (led by Vince Carter no less) to erase the Raptors’ 68-61 lead and Toronto was never really the same after that. The Raptors struggled on the glass and with second-chance points early, while major differentials in turnovers (-7 for Toronto) and trips to the line (-20) were simply too much to overcome.

But ...
