Valanciunas Training With Lithuania

Fresh off his MVP-winning performance at NBA Summer League, Jonas Valanciunas has joined Lithuania’s senior men’s national team as they ramp up training for the 2013 EuroBasket tournament in September.

Click the photos below for more pics of Valanciunas in training (complete with a new look) courtesy of http://www.basketnews.lt. If you speak or read Lithuanian, you’ll find even more articles and video there as well.

We’ll continue to track JV when Lithuania gets on court for a couple of friendlies next week (August 5th & 6th) against Belgium.

Checking Out With The Raptors From Las Vegas

Thoughts after a wrapping up with the Raptors at another NBA Summer League experience in Las Vegas….

- This isn’t exactly an original sentiment and I fully acknowledge that it means nothing in the grand scheme, but Jonas Valanciunas was certainly Raptors MVP at NBA Summer League, should make the All-Tournament Team and deserves serious consideration for Summer League MVP.  [EDIT: Done and DONE!]

We’ve mentioned his noticeable development in terms of size and skill. Now bring on EuroBasket 2013, where the competition should ramp up considerably.

Acy Takes Aim

- Quincy Acy will always ...

Valanciunas Out For Quarters At NBA Summer League

Jonas Valanciunas reviews video with Raptors assistant coach Bill Bayno after Friday’s practice at UNLV.

If the Raptors advance to the semis of the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship tournament, they’ll have to do it without Jonas Valanciunas.

Immediately prior to Saturday’s quarter-final matchup with the Phoenix Suns, the Raptors announced that Valanciunas sustained a sprained left index finger in Thursday’s game vs. Denver.

According to Raptors President of Basketball Operations and GM Masai Ujiri, the injury is not considered serious and Valanciunas is considered day-to-day.

Of course by sitting Valanciunas — quite ...

Raptors Move On To Knockout Round At NBA Summer League

What you see above is the result of seeding for the knockout round of the NBA’s inaugural Summer League Championship bracket. Here’s how it shakes out for the Raptors:

- As a result of their 2-1 record through the preliminary round, the Raptors found themselves among the top half of the 22 teams here in Las Vegas.

- The second tiebreaker however, is quarters “won” in the preliminary round. The Raptors outscored opponents in eight of 12 quarters through their first three games — good enough to get them the sixth seed ...

Valanciunas Ready For His Sportsnet Close Up

jv_shoot

Jonas Valanciunas took some time out during an afternoon off in Las Vegas (where he’s been feasting on NBA Summer League opponents like it’s the buffet at the Bellagio) to take part in a photo shoot for Sportsnet Magazine’s upcoming NBA Preview edition.

Keep an eye out for that profile piece on Valanciunas this fall. In the meantime, we put BlackBerry’s Story Maker to work and the results are below.

Valanciunas Dominates In Summer League Debut

The only thing capable of stopping Jonas Valanciunas in his NBA Summer League debut might have been fatigue.

Valanciunas was a huge bright spot in an 81-72 Raptors loss to the Heat that didn’t really feel all that close when the final buzzer sounded at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The 21-year-old came out of the gates with a ton of aggression and dominated inside on his way to a game-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds (three offensive).

Raptors fans should be familiar with ...

Raptors Win Fifth Straight. Questions Start Now.

The Raptors are anxious to see what they can achieve with Rudy Gay playing a full season.

The Raptors are anxious to see what they can achieve with Rudy Gay playing a full season.

Four and 19.

No matter how you look at, the Raptors disappointing 34-48 season turned on the club’s first 23 games and their inability to win more than four of them.

But there are other numbers as well.

Start with 18-17. That’s the club’s record since they acquired Rudy Gay on January 30.

How about 19.5 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. Those are Gay’s numbers as a Raptor.

There are more. Amir Johnson’s career best 10 points ...
