Game Preview: Raptors vs. Wizards

derozan_576_j

Don’t look now but the Raptors are suddenly in first place in the Atlantic Division and about to begin their longest homestand of the season, beginning with the Wizards tonight (7 PM ET, TSN2, TSN 1050).

It feels weird because they haven’t been in this position since 2007. It’s weird because their current 5-7 record feels completely earned, but somehow has them in this lofty spot (thanks for the slow start NYC-area teams).

When was the last time a team with a losing record lead any division this many games in? According […]

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Toronto Raptors are under .500 and on top of the Atlantic Division.

More games like this one and they’ll get that winning record.

DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points and Rudy Gay had 18 to help Toronto beat the Philadelphia 76ers 108-98 on Wednesday night.

In a down year so far in the Atlantic Division, the Raptors (5-7) wrested away first place from the Sixers (5-8).

“It’s a great accomplishment to be in that position,” guard Kyle Lowry said. “But we […]

TORONTO (AP) — A steady hand and cool demeanour helped Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points each as Portland shot its way to a 118-110 overtime victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Nicolas Batum added a season-high 24, and the Blazers overcame a late push by Toronto to pick up their sixth straight victory.

“We didn’t have a reason to be all riled up,” Lillard said. “They played well getting back into the game. […]

Game Preview: Raptors @ Rockets

The Raptors are back on the road for a pair of games against Western Conference contenders, beginning with Dwight Howard, James Harden and the Houston Rockets (8 PM ET, Sportsnet, Sportsnet 590 The FAN).

What to watch in the season series opener between these two teams tonight.

Right Time For Rockets? The Raptors come into this one riding a six-game slide in Houston, but they’re catching the Rockets scuffling a little bit with three losses in their last four after they opened the campaign with three straight wins.

Who’s Healthier In Houston? Both teams are […]

Raptors Hit All The Right Notes In Needed Win

team_camo600

Big win. Bigger confidence boost.

That’s the takeaway from a 115-91 Raptors blowout victory over the visiting Jazz on Saturday at ACC.

Head coach Dwane Casey called both teams desperate for a win pregame, which was telling. This season is only a couple of weeks old, but the Raptors have struggled with consistency over a stretch of four losses in five games and it’s tough to envision a scenario where a loss against the winless Jazz would have been viewed as defensible.

Instead, the Raptors delivered a no-doubter that saw them keep […]

Raptors End Slide With Blowout Win Over Jazz At ACC

TORONTO (AP) — Long on youthful promise but short on established talent, the Utah Jazz figured they’d take some beatings this season.

They just didn’t know how much it would hurt.

Tyler Hansbrough scored a season-high 23 points, DeMar DeRozan added 18 and the Toronto Raptors snapped a seven-game home losing streak against Utah, routing the winless Jazz 115-91 Saturday night.

“This is not fun,” frustrated Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. “I don’t think we showed up with the intensity that we needed […]

Game Preview: Raptors vs. Jazz

UTA_DD_DF576

Is it too early to call tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz at Air Canada Centre a “must win” for the Raptors?

The home side needs a foothold before a tough week ahead and the winless Jazz (0-6) obviously presents an opportunity tonight to end a three-game slide (7 PM ET, TSN2, TSN 1050).

But the Jazz will be starving for a first win and undoubtedly view this as a potential slump buster. History is also on their side, as they’ve won 14 of the last 15 meetings overall and will try for […]

Game Preview: Raptors @ Pacers

amir_pacers600

It’s a tall task for the Raptors tonight in the midst of their first losing streak of the season against the Pacers (7 PM ET, TSN2, Sportsnet 590 The FAN).

The slide has only been two games, but there’s been an inconsistency to the way the Raptors have started this season and some troubling early numbers back that up.

The Raptors’ third loss in their last four games against the Bobcats on Wednesday featured a bizarre finish, but head coach Dwane Casey was more concerned by the porous defensive start that saw […]

Raptors’ Struggles In Charlotte Continue With Latest Loss To Bobcats

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Gerald Henderson didn’t tinker with his shot after making just 31 percent from the field in his first four games this season.

“I started out the first three games horribly shooting-wise, but looking at my shots with Coach, I shot all good shots – shots that I regularly shoot – they just weren’t falling,” Henderson said.

That all changed Wednesday night.

Henderson broke out of his mini-slump with a season-high 23 points, and the surprising Charlotte Bobcats defeated the Toronto Raptors […]

Game Preview: Raptors vs. Heat

MIA_lowry600

Fresh off ending a ten-game slide against the Bucks, the Raptors try and stop an even longer slump against the Miami Heat tonight at ACC (7 PM, TSN2, TSN 1050).

The Raptors have lost 11 straight meetings against the Heat, representing their longest active losing streak against an opponent. Coincidentally, their last win over the Heat back on Jan. 27, 2010 was actually the last time Toronto was two games over .500.

There’s temptation to see the reigning champs as vulnerable (as they can possibly be) at ACC tonight. Former […]
