Checking Out With The Raptors From Las Vegas

Thoughts after a wrapping up with the Raptors at another NBA Summer League experience in Las Vegas….

- This isn’t exactly an original sentiment and I fully acknowledge that it means nothing in the grand scheme, but Jonas Valanciunas was certainly Raptors MVP at NBA Summer League, should make the All-Tournament Team and deserves serious consideration for Summer League MVP.  [EDIT: Done and DONE!]

We’ve mentioned his noticeable development in terms of size and skill. Now bring on EuroBasket 2013, where the competition should ramp up considerably.

Valanciunas Out For Quarters At NBA Summer League

Jonas Valanciunas reviews video with Raptors assistant coach Bill Bayno after Friday’s practice at UNLV.

Immediately prior to Saturday’s quarter-final matchup with the Phoenix Suns, the Raptors announced that Valanciunas sustained a sprained left index finger in Thursday’s game vs. Denver.

According to Raptors President of Basketball Operations and GM Masai Ujiri, the injury is not considered serious and Valanciunas is considered day-to-day.

Of course by sitting Valanciunas — quite ...

Raptors Move On To Knockout Round At NBA Summer League

What you see above is the result of seeding for the knockout round of the NBA’s inaugural Summer League Championship bracket. Here’s how it shakes out for the Raptors:

- As a result of their 2-1 record through the preliminary round, the Raptors found themselves among the top half of the 22 teams here in Las Vegas.

- The second tiebreaker however, is quarters “won” in the preliminary round. The Raptors outscored opponents in eight of 12 quarters through their first three games — good enough to get them the sixth seed ...
