Game Preview: Raptors vs. Heat

MIA_lowry600

Fresh off ending a ten-game slide against the Bucks, the Raptors try and stop an even longer slump against the Miami Heat tonight at ACC (7 PM, TSN2, TSN 1050).

The Raptors have lost 11 straight meetings against the Heat, representing their longest active losing streak against an opponent. Coincidentally, their last win over the Heat back on Jan. 27, 2010 was actually the last time Toronto was two games over .500.

There’s temptation to see the reigning champs as vulnerable (as they can possibly be) at ACC tonight. Former […]

Game Preview: Raptors @ Bucks

amir_MIL600

Quick hits after a quick turnaround for the Raptors, who close a back-to-back in Milwaukee against the Bucks tonight (8:30 PM ET, TSN, FAN590).

– Both the Raptors and Bucks dug similar holes on Friday night, but responded very differently. The Bucks managed to spoil the Celtics’ opener in Boston by erasing a 22-point second-half lead, while the Raptors stumbled before halftime in Atlanta and couldn’t regain their footing (despite some serious heroics from DeMar DeRozan).

Should be interesting to see how both teams respond in the home opener for the […]

Valanciunas Eager To Build On Rookie Season

Jonas Valanciunas, shown here defending Minnesota centre Nikola Pekovic, will see plenty of contact this season.

The advice to Jonas Valanciunas from Rudy Gay is simple enough.

“I just tell him be himself,” Gay said. “Dominate.  Be the best big player on the court. Be the best big man on the court.

“Be the person we all know you can be and it‘ll be easy.”

Gay is wrong on one count. It won’t be easy.  Wrestling big men such as Indiana’s Roy Hibbert or the Nets’ Brook Lopez will never be easy.  Never mind that Valanciunas, a Lithuanian who did not play college ball in the U.S., has less experience […]

Rapid Reaction: Raptors Storm Back To Drop Knicks

Box Score | Photo Gallery | Video: Highlights & Reaction | Lowry Feature

Thoughts from a 100-91 Raptors comeback win over the Knicks at ACC on Friday…

– Quincy Acy wasted little time making an impression in his first preseason action of the preseason. Acy entered the game with 6:12 to play in the fourth quarter and went on to reel off seven straight points in just under 90 seconds to put the Raptors ahead for good with just under two minutes to play.

“I just stay ready and that’s what […]

Raptors Pull Away To Drop Celtics In Preseason Debut

Some general thoughts after the Raptors open the preseason with a 97-89 win over the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston.

-  The first thing head coach Dwane Casey spoke about post-game? Turnovers. The Raptors coughed it up a whopping 25 times with the starters turning it over a total of 16 times.

“I know it’s an exhibition game, but we’ve got to get that way down,” said Casey.

– We saw both the impressive growth and the room […]

Post-Shootaround Notes From Boston

News/notes ahead of tonight’s Raptors preseason opener against the Celtics at TD Garden (7:30 PM ET)

Familiar Five:  Head coach Dwane Casey has said he intends to use the preseason to mix and match lineups, but expect the Raptors to start with the same group that finished last season in Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas.

Pair Of Ex-Pacers:  That being said, Casey has always placed a greater emphasis on who finishes games for him and really feels that he’s got some  reserves at his disposal who can […]
