Throwback Thursday: Where Were They on Draft Day?

As pre-draft workouts continue this week on the Raptors Practice Court, the game changing day for NBA hopefuls inches closer; exactly three weeks away today.  The excited anxiety has been captured at Air Canada Centre as local hopefuls strive for performance perfection and the Raptors organization preps for that slated 20th pick.

So what was Draft Day like for the current Raptors squad?

Toronto fans would remember three very well.

It was 2009 when the name DeMar DeRozan was linked with the city for the first time, being selected 9th by the team north of the border.

Throwback Thursday: Raptors Hit Playoff Lead of 26 – Now and Then.

Have you recovered from last night?

Mixed within the madness of a smooth sailing turned stormy Game 5 run for the Raptors was this historic fact:

@Raptors matched a team playoff high when they led 83-57 (+26) – largest lead in playoff game. Raps led +26 in Gm 3 vs. PHI in '01

— RaptorsMR (@RaptorsMR) May 1, 2014

The original record was set during the Raptors and Sixers playoff meeting in 2001.

Amir Johnson had just celebrated his 14th birthday, just prior to his Westchester High basketball days. Today he turns 27.

Janet Jackson’s ‘All […]

Throwback Thursday: Playoffs Presence – Raptors vs. Nets, Then vs. Now

You know that saying “the more things change, the more they stay the same”?

As the current season proceeded game by game, there were many similarities noted between the 2006/2007 Raptors season and the one we are excitedly immersed in now. And they both ended with fans wearing the Atlantic title splashed across their chests.

Then came the first round of playoffs. We know the numbers, but what about the in-arena effect? The sights and sounds? After splitting the season series (both seasons) it was the Raptors (3) vs. Nets (6). Adjust […]

Throwback Thursday: Trey Bien

Toronto Raptors vs. New Jersey Nets

Three pointer, trey, Amir-branded summer and winter threes; those beautiful buckets from downtown have been showing up on the regular in 2014 for the Raptors.

Looking back on this week alone:

The Raptors hit eight 3-point shots in a single quarter vs. the Magic to tie a team record.

Terrence Ross set the record for most 3-point field goals in a half with seven against the Clippers.

He also matched the Raptors record in 3-point field goals in a quarter with seven that game. The second-year swing man also took second spot on the all-time […]

Throwback Thursday: Happy Birthday Muggsy

Former Raptor fan favourite, Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues, continues to be an inspiration with a heart that is probably bigger than he is. At 5’3″, he proved anything is possible including fourteen seasons in the NBA, closing his career here in Toronto. He helped the Raptors reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history and he continues to make appearances at games and community events to the likes of loyal fans.

Happy 49th birthday, Muggsy!

Throwback Thursday: All Access

Nostalgia triggers those ‘I’ll never forget’ moments and looking back on my time with the Raptors organization, some of the best ones were formed when fans were able to interact up close and personal with their idols. They realize that the monsters on the court are just like the rest of us with their drives to get where they are, constant cravings for Ma’s macaroni and cheese or their guilty pleasure of country music (Can you guess what current Raptor falls into the boots and hearts category?).

One of the ultimate […]

Throwback Thursday: The Ghoul ol’ Days

‘Happy home opener’ and ‘Happy Halloween’ tend to do a creepy crossover at the kick-off of every Raptors season. High-fiving the Bride of Frankenstein and a Werewolf wearing Raptors gear on the subway post game did happen. I wouldn’t argue his point if a vampire licked his lips of blood and said “Vut? It’s Raptor Red.” And as I take you through some fang-tastic nostalgia, feel free to moan at my witchy wordplay but for your own good, whatever you do, don’t fall asleep. Let’s […]
