Throwback Thursday: Early GM Training

photo-88

The school bell signaled the end of the day and you lugged your backpack full of tatted up textbooks home over one shoulder cause that’s what the cool kids did. The quarters from Mom and Pops jiggled in your pocket as you furiously planned your corner store attack. You had two blocks to decide the appropriate ratio between five-cent candies and trading cards.

Sitting cross-legged opposite my brother in front of the TGIF television line-up, it was the most stressful part of our Friday nights. We had our poker faces poised […]

Thoughts from a 100-91 Raptors comeback win over the Knicks at ACC on Friday…

– Quincy Acy wasted little time making an impression in his first preseason action of the preseason. Acy entered the game with 6:12 to play in the fourth quarter and went on to reel off seven straight points in just under 90 seconds to put the Raptors ahead for good with just under two minutes to play.

“I just stay ready and that’s what […]

Raptor Hopeful Morais Knows He Has Already Won

He had to be a man when he was a boy. Now, at 27, Raptors hopeful Carlos Morais likens himself to a kid in grade school.

Morais, a six-four-shooting guard was credited with being the first Angolan to appear in an NBA game when he played the final three minutes of the Raptors preseason loss to Minnesota, Wednesday.

Basketball is a major sport in Angola, one of the few African nations to support a professional league and Morais has long been on the Raptors’ radar. He was MVP of this summer’s AfroBasket […]

Kindness Follows Andre Boothe All The Way To Raptors’ Huddle

There is a heavy black curtain that separates the rest of the world from the Toronto Raptors when they practice, as they did Thursday, on the glistening  floor of the Air Canada Centre.

When the players and coaches are ready, someone pulls back the curtain and the rest of the world, represented by the sports media, pours in.

Behind the black curtain, yesterday a giant stood for a few moments among the Raptors.

His name is Andre Boothe. He is 21-years-old and a lifetime Whitby resident.

He is about five-foot-six, maybe 130 pounds.

His breathing […]

Throwback Thursday: Why The Raptor Rules

Golden State Warriors v Toronto Raptors

Yesterday the game night buzz was back. The familiar inhale of popcorn as you hit the concourse, the familiar squeaks of go-time shoes on the court and the familiar soundwave of amped up fans turning the noise meter up once again. It felt pretty good, eh? But there was one familiar missing. And from the reaction within the game night realm, it was really missing.

It was announced that the Raptor will be taking some time off to recuperate from a heartbreaking Achilles injury that he suffered at Training Camp, which […]

Reaction After An Injury To The Raptor

The Raptors have suffered their first major injury of the season and it’s of the absolutely heartbreaking variety.

The Raptor — widely considered to be the best mascot in all of sports — ruptured an Achilles tendon last week during Training Camp in Halifax, meaning we likely won’t see his high-flying antics for the entirety of the 2013-14 season.

News of the injury spread rapidly on social media, with fans sending their well wishes…

Some general thoughts after the Raptors open the preseason with a 97-89 win over the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston.

-  The first thing head coach Dwane Casey spoke about post-game? Turnovers. The Raptors coughed it up a whopping 25 times with the starters turning it over a total of 16 times.

“I know it’s an exhibition game, but we’ve got to get that way down,” said Casey.

– We saw both the impressive growth and the room […]
