Masai Ujiri Takes Opportunity To Praise Nelson Mandela

ujiri_bwb

Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri is one of millions who have been moved by the life and legacy of South African revolutionary, philanthropist and politician Nelson Mandela, who passed away last week at the age of 95.

As the NBA’s first African-born GM, Ujiri has unique perspective on Mandela and delivered a touching tribute to him at the end of his post-trade news conference on Monday.

Ujiri grew up in Zaria, Nigeria watching Mandela’s inspirational fight for peace in South Africa and described how he respected and identified with it […]

Game Preview: Raptors vs. Spurs

jv_timmy576

A Raptors team in flux moves heads into a tough matchup against a model of consistency in the San Antonio Spurs tonight (7 PM ET, Sportsnet ONE/Sportsnet Ontario, FAN590). What to watch heading into this one.

Can The Raptors Compete Shorthanded Again? Because it looks like they’ll have to without new additions Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson in the lineup against the Spurs, according to Masai Ujiri after his latest deal on Monday.

But there’s more. Tyler Hansbrough could remain out with a sprained left shoulder, while guard […]

Rebounding Proves Costly In Raptors’ Loss To Suns

rapssuns-120613-620

There was no oasis in the desert for the Raptors on Friday and rebounding was a huge reason why.

After morning shootaround on Friday, both Raptors head coach Dwane Casey and Suns coach Jeff Hornacek believed their matchup was going to be won or lost on the glass — with Toronto’s ability to grab offensive rebounds and convert second-chance opportunities going up directly against the Suns’ league-leading scoring numbers on the fast break.

It was the home team that got the message and delivered emphatically in a 106-97 win on Sunday night […]

Throwback Thursday: Lowry Looks Back On “The Series”

photo

“I want to be a basketball player when I grow up.” That line is famous amidst the young generations of double dribblers. Think of that free throw trophy still shining (of dust) in your childhood bedroom and laugh at the familiar nostalgia.

We all have our ‘bigger than Shaq’ childhood dreams, whether it be basketball or other Hollywood-like highs. At 4’9″, wearing Jordan’s and a too-big-for-you Magic jersey, the sun slowly set on the basketball court behind your elementary school as you held your chest out, surrounded by challenges, like you […]

Raptors Aim To Regroup Out West

After an unsuccessful homestand, it’s going to be a gut-check kind of week for the Raptors on the West Coast.

The Raptors did themselves no favours by going 1-3 during their season-long run of four straight home games. Their latest defeat at the hands of the Denver Nuggets on Sunday dropped them to 6-10 on the campaign and signs of frustration are starting to show during the team’s current three-game losing streak.

Improbably, the Raptors still lead the Atlantic Division. But that’s going to be testedĀ against a trio of Pacific Division teams […]

Game Preview: Raptors vs. Heat

MIA_JV600

The Raptors aim to end their recent stretch of futility against the surging Heat in the final regular-season meeting between the two teams at ACC tonight (7 PM ET, TSN, FAN590, GET TICKETS).

Key Questions Heading into this one:

Can The Raptors Take Care Of Home? Because that hasn’t been the case so far. The Raptors are 1-1 on their current season-long four-game homestand and 3-4 overall this season at ACC.

Their latest defeat at home — a flat 102-100 effort against the Nets on Tuesday — still had head coach Dwane […]

Throwback Thursday: All Access

Image-51

Nostalgia triggers those ‘I’ll never forget’ moments and looking back on my time with the Raptors organization, some of the best ones were formed when fans were able to interact up close and personal with their idols. They realize that the monsters on the court are just like the rest of us with their drives to get where they are, constant cravings for Ma’s macaroni and cheese or their guilty pleasure of country music (Can you guess what current Raptor falls into the boots and hearts category?).

One of the ultimate […]
