Some thoughts after Team Black’s 92-64 win over Team Gray in a spirited Raptors intra-squad game to wrap up Training Camp in Halifax.

- Yes, it was just an intra-squad scrimmage. No, it shouldn’t diminish DeMar DeRozan taking four three-pointers on Saturday and drilling a three of them on his way to a game-high 21 points.

Long distance shooting has been a huge focal point for DeRozan this past offseason, as he attempts to improve upon his 28.3 per cent shooting from behind the arc in 2012-13 (a career-best mark).

In Order Of Buzzworthyness: Raptors Land Drake, All-Star Game

All eyes were on Drake as he and the Raptors announced a new partnership as well as the acquisition of the 2016 All-Star Game.

Star power.

That’s what was in evidence, Monday as the Raptors announced they had secured both the 2016 NBA All-Star game and the services of music star Drake as their Global Ambassador.

By necessity, the press conference was short on specifics. Drake and his sidekick Future – one word identities, Shaq, LeBron, Kobe, have long been an NBA staple – and the Raptors are just getting acquainted and his role is an evolving picture. Being one of the top music stars in the world makes it impossible to quantify just how much ...

Throwback Thursday: On Rookie Duties, Pranks & Backpacks

Toronto Raptors v Sacramento Kings

A new season brings new faces. New names splashed from shoulder to shoulder. That has definitely been the story here in Raps Nation for the past few. And some of those players reppin’ the claw are new to fans and also new to the whirlwind of the NBA. Ladies and ‘gents, our rookies.

The team has always taken care of them with warm welcomes and gifts to make them feel right at home as they tackle new grounds. To gently ease them into the mighty spotlight of the big bad NBA. ...

Throwback Thursday: T-Mac Looks Back

1997 NBA Draft

The nostalgia of Throwback Thursday; the ‘remember whens’ and good ol’ days. See the game clock drop four zeros and hang a jersey up one last time and it’s the start of the same nostalgic haze.

Here’s proof from a career that started right here in our city and tapped seven other systems along the way.

Recognize this young buck?

Throw back to a few weeks ago: Tracy Lamar McGrady, the Raptors fourth ever draft selection at the age of 18, announced his retirement after 16 years in the court race.

Thank ...

Throwback Thursday: Big Day For Mo Pete

mopete1

What better way to tip-off Throwback Thursdays in this space than a tribute to Raptors alumni Morris Peterson, who will be inducted into the Michigan State University Athletics Hall of Fame today.

Peterson remains one of the best value picks ever by the Raptors at 21st overall in 2000 and quickly became a fan favourite with his clutch 3-point shooting, astounding array of circus shots, dedication to the franchise (remember him kissing the logo at centre court in his return?) and a tremendous work ethic that still sees him hold franchise ...

A Throwback Kind Of Week…

With a new Raptors season just on the horizon, it’s been a pretty fascinating week of nostalgia in these dog days of summer.

Last week, we saw President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Masai Ujiri in Johannesburg with none other than fellow Nigerian, former Raptor and Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.

This week, we’re seeing those more of those ties as Ujiri arranged for forwards Rudy Gay and Austin Daye to spend a week working with Olajuwon in Houston.

Daye Dreamin in H-Town…. Great workout today with one of the all time ...
