As we hurdle over the halfway mark of January 2014, the deja vu feeling of a similar month in Raptors history is already poking around.
January 2007: The Toronto Raptors were the talk of the league as the underdogs continued to shake off a sloppy start to the season. They finished the month at .500, stood atop the Atlantic Division and had a chance of making the playoffs for the first time since the ’01/’02 season. Sound familiar?
If that wasn’t positive enough, the Raptors became the first team in NBA history to receive all three monthly awards determined by the league.
Player of the Month: Chris Bosh
(Became the first Raptor to earn the honours. Averaged 25.4 points and 9.1 rebounds that month.)
Rookie of the Month: Andrea Bargnani
(Averaged 11.1 points and 3.6 rebounds that month.)
Coach of the Month: Sam Mitchell
(Proceeded to become the first Raptor Coach to earn Coach of Year honours for the ’06/’07 season)
That’s a sweep!
