A guest post from Kate Gustafson, MLSE Foundation Community Manager.

The Raptors are heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia with basketball development and community as part of their Training Camp focus. The Raptors intra-squad game on October 5 at the Halifax Metro Centre will provide a unique opportunity for fans to support both the team and their local community.

Supporting The Community

Last year, over $56,000 was raised at the intra-squad game in support of four deserving charitable organizations, with the goal to surpass that amount this October.

Charities benefiting from the suggested $10 voluntary admission donation include:

Feed Nova Scotia – striving to feed the hungry, eliminate chronic hunger and alleviate poverty
Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame Education Program – aiming to provide everyone with an equal opportunity to participate and attain personal growth in a respectful and positive environment
KidSport™ Nova Scotia – helping kids overcome the financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport
YMCA Supportive Housing for Young Mothers – helping young moms and their children develop the skills they need to build strong families in a safe, encouraging environment

Growing The Game

As leaders in developing the game of basketball in Canada, the Raptors Basketball Development team are excited to conduct clinics in partnership with the Canada Games Centre and Basketball Nova Scotia.

Two youth basketball clinics for 200 youth and mentoring session for 40 local coaches will take place at the Canada Games Centre.

The clinics will lead kids through a variety of skills and drills training during a 90-minute session focusing on leadership, teamwork, communication skills, as well as the importance of fair play. The mentorship session will provide local coaches with the opportunity to gain coaching expertise and learn how practices are executed at the professional level, providing unique access to broaden their knowledge base.

For registration information, please contact Basketball Nova Scotia or the Canada Games Centre.
